This route is undemanding and can be tackled even by novice cyclists who do not feel like taking trails and off-road sections. In fact, the Tour includes only a few short sections on dirt road and a few meters of trail to reach the Fort of Cima Ora.
This is not a loop: you will ride 12 kilometers to reach the Fort and then retrace your steps-or rather, your tire tracks-until you find yourself at the starting point, which is the Hotel Locanda Bonardi on Mount Maniva, as with the other routes in this Collection.
After only seven kilometers of pedaling you find the Baremone Pass, also known as the Marè Pass, at an altitude of 1,450 meters. Gradually the view of the surrounding landscape expands, until it presents itself in all its glory once you reach the Rosa Baremone Refuge at the pass (open only in summer, May through September).
Five minutes from the Refuge you encounter the Fort of Cima Ora, dating back to World War I and now in ruins, looking ghostly. Gaining the former lookout point, where the cannons were positioned, you can admire Lake Idro. This unconventional viewpoint is a good excuse for a short break.
On the way back you could take advantage of the Rosa Baremone Refuge for a tasty snack before tackling the last climb!
A word of advice: if you get a chance, bring your white front light and flashing red rear light so you can make yourself visible as you cross a short, picturesque tunnel.
